Notes from the top

At work the other day, we had a very good speaker (Mr. Cox) talk about what his advice was to us to succeed in the LIM program. With the use of some of Mr. Roberts’ information, Mr. Cox gave us the following points of advice that I just have to share. Let me know what you think!

Have integrity in everything you do
Stay mentally and physically fit
Be kind, be fair, be honest
Don’t be arrogant
Your reputation is everything, you can’t get it back
Never miss an opportunity to keep your mouth shut
The devil is in the details- the more you check, the better
Take risks
Ask for help
If you say you’ll deliver, you better be the mailman
Be positive
When you bring a problem, bring a solution
If you have something due on Wednesday, deliver it Tuesday
Life’s tough, but it’s tougher if you’re stupid
Control your own destiny or someone else will
Be quick
Make fast, firm decisions
Watch the news; be up to date with current events
Delete “That’s not part of my job” from your vocabulary.

The presentation was great! Very interesting! I am learning a lot as a LIM. These are all great ideas and pieces of advice that I can apply to my job…and my life.

One life Lyrics- 33 Miles

The song lyrics below are to my favorite song right now. I hear it on the Christian music stations that I listen to here in Indy. I also hear it on WBGL (88.5) in the Haute. I love Christian Music because it really makes me think about my life.

This song touches home with me so much, especially the first verse. Working 50-60 hours per week has slowly been killing me, I’m quite positive. This song just stresses the importance of loving your life. You only get on try, one life to love. Enjoy.

33 Miles
One Life

He never thought he cared so much about the minute hand
Until he started praying for a second chance
If he could only do it all again
And trade the long nights that he spent behind his desk
For all he missed
He tells his wife I wish that this moment in this room
Was not me dying but just spending a little time with you .

You only get just one time around, you only get one shot at this
One chance to find out the one thing that you don't wanna miss
One day when it's all said and done I hope you see that it was enough
This one ride, one try, one life to love ..

She never thought she cared so much about those little hands
That held on tight the day she left till she was scared to death
Sitting all alone on a hotel bed, the end of the road
The sun has set on her big plans to feel young again
She picks up the phone, dials a number, hears that little voice
That's haunted every single mile since she made that choice...

You only get just one time around, you only get one shot at this
One chance to find out the one thing that you don't wanna miss
One day when it's all said and done I hope you see that it was enough This one ride, one try, one life to love

Colts Vs. Texans

Last Sunday my parents and little brothers came to Indy! Mom and Dad had tickets to the Colts Vs. Texans game. Mark had to work. I was more than elated to spend the day with my little brothers!! It was Mom and Dad’s first time at Lucas Oil Stadium!

We met at Buffalo Wild Wings, ate lunch, and looked at wedding pictures. Then, we walked to Lucas Oil, where we parted ways. While Mom and Dad enjoyed overpriced booze at the stadium, I enjoyed shopping with my little brothers.

You might realize that I am using the word little in association with my brothers. It is in this moment that I am declaring that I will call them my little brothers for all eternity. I am aware they are both a foot taller than me. I am aware that they can both kick my little booty if they wanted to. I am aware that THEY are aware of our size difference. But I AM AWARE of our 8 and 10 year age differences, dangit, and I am holding a firm grip on that fact. Whew

Now that I have that tangent out of the way, I will show this picture. Grrrr……

Nathan, Evan, and I hung out at Circle Center Mall. We shopped for a while and played in the arcade. The boys even went into the girl stores with me! Although, I’m sure they were looking at the girls and not the clothes.. haha*

Let me be the first to say that I am happy that I am still cool enough to ‘hang out’ with my LITTLE brothers. I am aware that the day will come (probably sooner than later) when the boys will not appreciate my constant presence. Until that day, though, I will SAVOR every minute I am with them.

After the game (and the Colts tacked up another W) we all met up at Jillians. Jillians is a bar in downtown Indy that allows kids in until a certain time each night. It’s pretty cool. Mark met us for dinner.

It was a great time with my family!

Traditions

Mark and I went to French Lick before it was cool. We loved it. It was cheap and was a huge, different hotel to have fun in. Pre-casino. Pre-$150/night rooms. Pre-redecorating. Pre-huge indoor pool. A lot of things have changed at the French Lick Resort and Casino since we first went there when we were 17. One thing hasn’t changed though…. Our love of hallway cartwheels. Mark has a picture of me at the solid age of 17 turning cartwheels in the halls of the French Lick Resort. We carried on the tradition this time ‘around’.. haha* no pun intended… We are terrible gymnasts… this video proves it…… Oh yeah.. and I ‘intended’ that pun… Sorry…..

French Lick

When I got home at 7:30 on the 10th of November, I was cranky from working a long shift. I was so happy to see that my husband, who had the day off, worked so hard to paint our home. That was the first surprise. The second? When I got home, Mark was dressed and ready to go out! The next day was Veteran’s Day…. A federal holiday that I didn’t have to work! So0o0o0o0o……..

I think this is where I need to pause to tell another part of the story. Mark and I were planning on having Monday and Tuesday (the 10th and 11th) off that week. We both worked the whole weekend and were ready for a break. I called him on Sunday evening from work and warned (half-joked) with him that if I got the green light to have the next two days off, I was ready to book an early flight to Florida, stay the night, then fly home late Tuesday night. This is the part in the story where most people would stop reading, call me up, and inform me of what an idiotic idea that is.

Six hundred bucks to spend two days on the beach?
On a RANDOM Monday and Tuesday?
RIGHT BEFORE the holidays?
PLANNING the trip HOURS before the flight?

BUT, this is also the point in the story where those people realize that Mark and I are ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for each other! Mark was STOKED! Ready to pack his backpack and GO! S0o0o0, there we were….all excited about our sponstaneous trip. When Mark left work on Sunday, his co-workers asked what his plans were for his two days off. He told them he might fly to Florida. Then he told them he would see them Wednesday and left.

Then I had to work Monday. ((And almost Tuesday…)) Then we were all bummed. Then we broke our diets and ate Chinese food for lunch…Then Mark painted in despair…and in an attempt to cheer us both us… Then I got home from work Monday EVENING…. After twelve hours…. And there stood my husband. Walls painted…. Looking ready to party. Showered. Shaven. Yummy Smelling Cologne. Bling. What the heck? Why was he so happy? Why didn’t he let me be cranky?

“We’re going to French Lick for the night.” He said, looking at me, grinning.
Then, after looking at me again, he said….“You need to shower.” HAHA* Now I thought HE was the crazy one! I was in no mood to get ready and drive 2.5 hours to French Freaking Lick for the NIGHT.

My excuse:
It will be expensive.
His Response:
We were ready to spend $600 on a one night stay in Florida. Get in the shower.

My excuse:
I’m tired.
His Response:
I painted the house all day.

My excuse:
I’m cranky.
His Response:
You can drink away your sorrows in three hours.

At 10:30 we arrived at the French Lick Resort and Casino to CHECK IN….on a MONDAY. We bought a pint of Jager and a few Red Bulls from the store. Drank the whole thing. Went to the casino. Lost $100. (only $20 on the slots)…. The remainder? More booze.

We got a military discount, drank away our crankiness, stayed up until 3 or 4 in the morning, ate at our favorite little diner in the morning, and drove home.

It sure wasn’t the beach, but it sure wasn’t my apartment either! I had a blast with my best friend that night. God knew what he was doing when he hooked us up! And I think God intervened Monday night… got us out of the house before we inhaled all those paint fumes in the enclosed area…. ((Mark forgot to open windows…..))

Overall, a great way to spend 36 hours off work!

Painting

One day when I was working an Mark was not, he decided to entertain himself by painting some walls in our apartment! He met me for lunch with some paint swatches. Over Chinese, we decided on orange for the living room and kitchen, and turquoise for the bedroom. Yep. Those two colors are not typos. We needed some color in our apartment and boy did we get it! The entire project was done by the time I worked 12 hours! Haha* I got home from work to two surprises….. Painted walls……and……Read on to hear the second.
