Ice Hockey Friday night

Mark and I went to our first hockey game together Friday night! The game was only six bucks a person and was about six minutes from our house.. so we couldn't resist! :) We had a good time! It was dollar night at the Hockey game, which worked out well for us.... Dollar beer, popcorn, and nachos... we got all three.... and plenty of the dollar beer! :) It was a good time....for the most part.....
The break's entertainment was Human Bowling. The first contestant was a big boy. The announcer even said so. He also went on to announce that we should be proud to be able to say that we were in attendance for the worst game of Human Bowling in Hockey History. The contestants were terrible. But it was funny to see them play... and to hear the drunk old men in front of us laugh at them.... YEAH! I'm soooo sure you guys could have done better! :)

The Indiana Ice lost 4 to 6, but I did catch one of the goals on camera! :)

The worst part of the whole game hands down was when two of the players started fighting. Now I KNOW that people in hockey are very agressive. I have even seen Happy Gilmore enough to know that I should expect some rough housing at the game. But what I experienced was something I hate to relive...even through typing in this blog... But I will for the sake of education.... (and entertainment....)

The whole game, I would gasp each time a player got thrown against the side of the rink. Ouch. I felt bad for the players! Mark assurred me that there were PLENTY of protection under their uniforms. It still hurt me even to WATCH. But I knew that was part of the game.

Then, with ten minutes left in the game, everyone in the stands stood up and looked AWAY from the action. ((The action I THOUGHT was where the puck was on the rink)) Boy was I W.R.O.N.G.... Two players were on the other side of the rink with HELMETS AND GLOVES OFF throwing punches at each other and full out BRAWLING!! I couldn't believe it!!! I was completely freaking out!!

"Why are they doing that? Oh good! There's the ref!..."
"Wait! Why isn't the ref stopping them?!?!"
"Oh good, at least they are done now...."
"Oh my goodness! Why are they still fighting?"

When the boys were finished, the refs took them straight to the penalty box. (As I was so kindly informed by my husband.) Everyone in the stands sat down.... Except me... I was in utter SHOCK! That was my first time experiencing a fight. I couldn't believe it.

Mark made me sit down. I still couldn't talk. I couldn't believe what I had just experienced. Mark (and everyone else) continued to watch the game. As for me? I started crying. Not really so much CRYING as COMPLETE SOBBING. Gasping for air. Wimpering at what I had just seen. Vowing never to return. Hoping that no one involved in the fight was injured.

Overall, the experience was a new one. I always appreciate new experiences. Always DID, anyways..... :(

My embarassed husband insists that we will return to the games.... He just may sit a few rows in front of me next time....
