I have this burning desire to join the Peace Corps. Mark feels quite
strongly about it too. Let me start from the beginning of our
plans.....
This August, Mark and I are planning to start our Masters of Business
Administration at Anderson University. Anderson is a privately-owned,
Christian college about 45 minutes from our apartment. There are
cohorts (meeting places for night class students) throughout the Greater
Indianapolis area. There are many reasons for our decision to attend
Anderson University:
1.) Close to home.
2.) Cheap. (Free for me because DFAS will pay 100% of fees
including books.)
3.) 22 month program
4.) Good recommendations from current and former students
5.) NO GMAT REQUIRED if Bachelor's GPA was 3.0 or above... Yeah!
6.) Concentrations: There are several concentrations to choose at
Anderson. Mark is thinking about Leadership and I am thinking
International Business. There is a trip to Europe that we could go on
in May 2010. The trip goes to London, Paris, and Brussels for two
weeks. You know we can't pass up a trip abroad!!!!
If we both start in August 2009, we should be done by June 2011. We
could leave for the Peace Corps in July 2011. I am done with my
contract with DFAS in May 2011. That is PERFECT!!!!
Now let's discuss the Peace Corps. Like I said, Mark and I really feel
like it is right for us right for us. I have dreams NOW of selling
everything I own and moving away and helping people for the rest of my
life. I am amazed how LESS materialistic I am since I returned from the
Czech Republic. I learned that I could survive if I lived out of a
backpack. I never thought I would say that.
I think Mark and I will come back from the Peace Corps completely
different people. We may decide that we want to live on a beach and
sell umbrellas to people for the rest of our lives. Wouldn't that just
make our parents (and professors) ring our necks? We will see! Only
time will tell.....
